Memory Lane

1896            Club formed by a group, mainly shopkeepers, initially called the
                        "Half Holiday Golf Club".

1897               First Inter-Club match played against Mercantile.

1898               First Clubhouse rented on ground close to the building which is now
                        Dorward House.

1899                The Club recognise the need for larger premises as the
                        membership grows.

1900                Problems arise in the buying of  land for the building of a new
                        Clubhouse. 

1901 - 1904     The Half Holiday Club decide on a change of name to go with their
                         new Clubhouse.
